Can anyone call the Hotline?

Anyone can call the Hotline. Baby Your Baby is a health education program and resource and referral service. It doesn't matter whether or not you qualify for financial assistance, you can still order Baby Your Baby educational materials and receive helpful information. Baby Your Baby would like every family expecting a baby to have a free Health Keepsake book no matter what their income may be.

When can I call the Hotline?

The Hotline is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday except for state and federal holidays. You can call at other times and leave a message. A Baby Your Baby operator will return your call the next business day.

Is the Hotline only for Utah residents or can residents of other states call?

The 1-800 hotline number is free from anywhere in Utah. Each state has their own similar hotline. You may reach your state's hotline by dialing 1-800-311-2229. You can also communicate with Baby Your Baby by e-mail at byb@utah.gov

Can the Hotline give referrals or recommendations for health care providers?

The Hotline can refer you to a community health center and public health clinic in your area.

Who am I talking to when I call the Hotline?

The hotline is not a recorded phone message system. When you call the Hotline, you can expect a one-on-one conversation with a friendly person. The hotline staff are Department of Health customer service experts with a wide knowledge of resources available in the state. If they can't answer your question they will locate the information for you or refer you to someone who can help you.

Can the Hotline answer specific questions about my pregnancy or baby's health?

It is better to have your health care provider answer your specific medical questions. The Hotline operators do not have a medical background. They can refer your specific health questions on such topics as nutrition or breastfeeding, carseats or immunizations, etc. to an expert at the Department of Health.

Is my call confidential?

Yes! Absolutely. Each operator signs a confidentiality agreement when they are hired.

Are there foreign language options or operators?

The hotline uses Language Line services (150 languages) and can connect with an interpreter usually in less than a minute.
